A day after a kente-filled traditional ceremony, Efya has said “I do” again. The Ghanaian singer married Nigerian musician Tomi Thomas at a white wedding in Accra on Saturday, 7 November 2026, completing a wedding weekend that has dominated Ghanaian social media.
Photos and videos shared online on Saturday showed Efya arriving in an elegant white lace gown and a veil, a striking change from the kente she wore 24 hours earlier. Details of the venue and the guest list for the white wedding were not officially released before the day.
Efya’s white wedding follows a star-studded traditional ceremony
The white wedding came after the couple formalised their union at a colourful traditional marriage ceremony in Accra on Friday, 6 November. MyJoyOnline reported that Efya wore “a specially designed Kente gown that paid homage to her Ghanaian heritage”, while Tomi Thomas arrived with an entourage and traditional musicians, dressed in richly woven kente with gold accessories.
The decor leaned into gold, orange, cream and brown, and many guests followed the theme in kente and gold outfits. During the rites, Efya asked her family to accept the items presented by the groom’s family. The couple then exchanged rings, were pronounced husband and wife and shared a kiss before their first dance, to a mix of highlife classics and Afrobeats.
In a video that circulated online, the groom explained his intentions simply: “I sent my parents with the marriage items because I want Efya as my wife.”
Who attended
The guest list at the traditional ceremony mixed government, royalty and showbiz. Local media named the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, and the Paramount Chief of Akuapem, Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III, among those present.
From entertainment came musicians Sister Derby, Becca and Fantana, actresses Fella Makafui and Salma Mumin, Efia Odo, Hajia4Reall, National Film Authority chief executive Kafui Danku and fashion duo Lali x Lola. Efya’s mother, the broadcaster Nana Adwoa Awindor, wore colourful kente with an orange headwrap and was reported to be visibly emotional as she entered.
From a February knocking to November vows
The couple kept their relationship largely private. In February 2026, reports claimed Efya had secretly married on Valentine’s Day. Her management responded that the 14 February event was a knocking ceremony and that the customary marriage processes had not been completed, Graphic Online reported. Friday’s ceremony completed those rites, and Saturday’s white wedding sealed them.
Who is Tomi Thomas?
Tomi Thomas first came to attention as a member of the Nigerian group Loud On Sound (L.O.S.) before going solo. He has worked with Jamaican reggae star Buju Banton and American rapper Wale, and he appeared on Stonebwoy’s “Hotter Fire”, a link to Ghana’s music scene long before the wedding.
Efya, Ghana’s vocal queen
Efya, born Jane Awindor and also known as Efya Nokturnal, is one of Ghana’s most celebrated female vocalists and a regular winner of vocal awards at the Ghana Music Awards. Her wedding makes her the latest Ghanaian star to marry a Nigerian partner, a cross-border tradition that fans have been celebrating all weekend. You can find her songs and story on her AfroYard artist page.
For couples inspired by the weekend, the Efya and Tomi Thomas wedding is a reminder that the traditional ceremony and the white wedding can sit side by side, one honouring family and culture, the other the vows. Here is how a Ghanaian wedding weekend usually unfolds, and how other Ghanaian music stars have tied the knot.
