The caterer is late, the DJ cannot find the extension cable, and the bride’s mother is answering phone calls instead of greeting guests. This is the moment a day-of coordinator earns their fee. Many couples plan their wedding themselves but hire someone to run the day.
Planner and coordinator
A full wedding planner helps from the start: budget, venue, vendors and design. A day-of coordinator, sometimes called a month-of coordinator, steps in near the end. They take the plans you have made and make sure they happen on the day.
What they do
A coordinator confirms arrangements with vendors in the final weeks, creates a detailed timeline for the day and manages the schedule. On the day, they handle deliveries, set-up, timing, the order of events and problems that come up. They act as the point of contact so the couple and family do not have to.
Before the day
Expect a coordinator to meet you several weeks before the wedding to understand your plans. They will ask for vendor contacts, contracts, the guest list, seating plans and the programme. They may visit the venue and attend the rehearsal.

On the day
They arrive early to oversee set-up, check decorations, confirm the caterer and the cake, brief ushers and line up the bridal party. They keep the programme moving and cue the MC, DJ and photographer. At the end, they make sure hired items are returned and gifts are collected.
Why it helps in Ghana
Ghanaian weddings often involve several events, large families and many vendors. Delays are common. A coordinator who knows how to keep a programme on track, and how to speak respectfully to elders while doing so, is valuable.
Choosing one
Ask for references from past couples and look at how they handled weddings of your size. Ask how many weddings they take on a single day; a coordinator managing three events at once cannot give yours full attention. Confirm whether they bring assistants.
The contract
Get a written agreement covering the start date of their involvement, the number of meetings, the hours on the day, the number of assistants, the fee and what happens if the event runs late.
Family helpers
Some couples ask a reliable aunt or friend to act as coordinator. That can work, but it means that person spends the wedding working instead of celebrating. A professional removes that burden.
You spent months planning. A coordinator makes sure you are present for the day you planned, instead of managing it.
