Some couples know from the very first glance. Michelle and Patrick met at a barbecue when they were just 19, and Michelle knew straight away he was the one for her. What she didn't realise was that Patrick had spotted her the day before and had already come to the very same conclusion.
The pair married on 29 November 2025 at The Village Hotel Bettystown, after an engagement that lasted 19 years. Patrick's proposal came on a night out, no elaborate plan, no fuss, just him dropping to one knee and asking Michelle to marry him. As Michelle puts it herself, it's not the most dramatic story, but sometimes the simplest moments are the ones that mean the most.
The couple went for a frozen wonderland theme, with a blue and white colour palette running through everything from the snowflake details to the winter themed table names. The weather played along too. It was a cold day, but it cleared up just in time for photographs.
Michelle made her own mirror props for the day, and her approach to styling was refreshingly simple. "I didn't overdo it, it was magical," she says, and that restraint clearly paid off. The room was draped in blue lighting, and the centrepieces were manzanita trees decorated with baubles and candles, giving the whole space a soft, wintery glow.
Patrick wore navy with blue accents, finished off with a bow tie and pocket square, while Michelle chose a white dress with lace detailing on top, paired with blue shoes, sapphire jewellery and a hair comb to tie the winter theme together. The wedding party kept things sweet and simple. Michelle's son took on best man duties, dressed to match his dad, and her daughter was the flower girl in a white dress with white shoes and blue trimmed socks, a lovely little nod to the colour scheme running through the whole day.
Michelle and Patrick's ceremony was full of thoughtful, personal details. They chose a sand ceremony, and Michelle walked down the aisle to "I Wanna Grow Old With You," with the sand ceremony itself set to "One Last Wish." They signed the register to Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" and left as newlyweds to "Married Life" from the film Up. Michelle also wrote her own poems for the readings, adding an extra personal layer to an already meaningful ceremony.
The couple describe their venue as beautiful and quiet, and very much reflective of who they are as a couple, with staff who went above and beyond throughout the day. Their photographer, Anastella, gets a glowing review. Michelle says she was everywhere and captured everything, with a second photographer on hand who was equally brilliant. For video, the couple worked with content creator LCY Social, who Michelle describes as amazing. Entertainment came courtesy of magician Aidan Murphy, who Michelle says was, in her own words, "magically magical," with guests still talking about him.
When asked for their favourite moment from the day, Michelle didn't hesitate. Their first dance tops the list, a moment where the rest of the room simply disappeared. Their first look before the ceremony comes a close second, giving them a quiet moment together before the day properly began.
If there's one piece of advice this newly married couple wants to pass on, it's this: don't get bogged down in the small stuff. Michelle puts it simply: "Don't worry about all the little things, just enjoy the build up. People don't care about favours, centrepieces or colours. They care about the food and entertainment."
