Mitchell O’Brien walked up the aisle to the unmistakable James Bond theme, setting a playful tone at his wedding in Malaga on 23 May 2026. His bride, Elaine, followed to Lana Del Rey’s “Young & Beautiful,” their entrance blending cinematic flair with personal meaning. This was no ordinary Spanish wedding. It was a gathering of old money glamour and red roses, all framed by the mountains and shimmering lake of La Viñuela.

Their story began online during the Covid lockdown, a slow burn relationship that led Mitchell to propose 22 months before their wedding day. The proposal was intimate and thoughtful. Elaine returned home from work to find champagne ready and a ring that belonged to Mitchell’s grandmother. “It was intimate and perfect, in our safe space full of love,” Elaine said.

Choosing Malaga was a natural decision. Mitchell’s family has had a holiday home in the area for years, making La Viñuela a place layered with memories. The couple held their ceremony at Church San Jose in a nearby village, then moved to the BBou Hotel La Viñuela for the reception. Elaine described the venue simply: “Our venue was just stunning. The view over the lake and the incredible food and staff made it a no brainer.”

Style was front and centre. Mitchell wore a Louis Copeland bespoke cream dinner jacket with black trousers and a black bow tie, evoking a secret-agent vibe. Their 10-month-old son matched him in a custom waistcoat, while the groomsmen stuck to classic black tuxedos from the same label. Elaine chose an ethereal Folkster gown with dramatic sleeves, accented by a pearl veil and bridal styling by Ella Megan Marbella. The bridesmaids wore floor-length black gowns by Azazie and carried striking bouquets of red and white roses arranged by Ana Mari Floristas.

The ceremony blended Spanish tradition with Irish roots. Mitchell set the mood with the Bond theme, and Elaine’s entrance was accompanied by Lana Del Rey. To honour their heritage, they included an Irish song, “Grace,” during the service. Elaine shared that the most meaningful parts were her first look with her father, walking up the aisle alongside her husband and son, and their walk back as Mr and Mrs O’Brien.

The reception unfolded outdoors, by the lake under an architectural dome at BBou Hotel La Viñuela. Giant floral urns and tall candlesticks created a stately atmosphere, balanced by relaxed Mediterranean touches like rattan placemats and chairs. “We kept that Spanish theme with the outdoor eating,” Elaine explained.

Music shaped the day’s rhythm. A pianist played during the ceremony and dinner, followed by saxophonist Dario who set the vibe during welcome drinks around a champagne tower. Local DJ Jose kept the party going into the early hours. “Each entertainer brought something different to the day and made every stage an event,” Elaine said.

Photographer Matt Brooker travelled from the UK to document the wedding. Elaine praised his work: “He was so easy going and reassuring on the day. He got the perfect family shots and beautiful candid moments. We were blown away by the gallery Matt sent on.”

After the whirlwind of planning and celebration, Elaine offered a tip for couples preparing their day: “Don’t bother with party favours! They honestly get left behind or thrown out a day or two later.”

Elaine and Mitchell’s wedding felt like a nod to classic elegance with a personal twist—a black-tie affair wrapped in red and white roses, wrapped in the warmth of family history and Mediterranean light. It’s a reminder that sometimes the best weddings come from familiar places, thoughtful details, and a soundtrack that makes everyone smile.
