Friday is the traditional wedding, Saturday is the church and reception, and by Sunday the couple can barely stand. Holding both ceremonies on the same weekend has become popular among Ghanaian and Nigerian couples, especially when guests are travelling from abroad. It saves money on travel and keeps family together, but it also squeezes two major events into a very short time.
Why couples do it and the order
Guests travel once instead of twice, venues and vendors can be booked together and the celebration feels like one big event. Most couples hold the traditional ceremony first, often on a Thursday or Friday, followed by the white wedding on Saturday. If the traditional ceremony is held at the bride’s family home, consider the travel time to the church and reception venue.

Using the same photographer, caterer and decorator for both days can simplify planning and may earn a discount.
Outfits, rest and guests
Plan outfits for both days early. Traditional attire, the wedding gown and reception outfits all need fittings. Brides may need different hairstyles for each day. Discuss options with stylists that allow changes without damage. Build in rest. Avoid late-night parties between the two ceremonies. Tell guests clearly which events they are invited to, with times and locations.
Two ceremonies mean two sets of food, drinks and decor. Set separate budgets for each day. A coordinator is especially useful for back-to-back ceremonies, managing schedules and vendors. Assign family members to handle specific tasks on each day. Plan a quiet day after the celebrations before travelling or returning to work.
Food, transport and thank-yous
Order food and drinks for both days together, and agree delivery times with caterers so nothing arrives late or spoils in the heat. Arrange transport for the couple, family elders and the bridal party between venues on both days. Agree with your photographer on a shot list for each ceremony so nothing important is missed.
Simplify where you can, such as using the same decor colours for both days. Plan how to thank guests who attend both ceremonies. Two ceremonies in one weekend can be exhausting. Couples who plan the rest as carefully as the parties tend to remember the weekend with joy as well as relief.
