When 2Baba, the singer behind “African Queen”, married Annie Macaulay in 2012, fans celebrated a long love story. He had proposed on Valentine’s Day that year, and the couple already had a daughter together. A lavish white wedding in Dubai followed in 2013. For more than a decade, their marriage was among the most watched in Nigerian entertainment, until 2Baba announced in January 2025 that they had separated.

2Baba, Annie and the traditional wedding

Innocent Idibia, first known as 2face, rose to fame with the group Plantashun Boiz before his 2004 hit “African Queen” made him a continental star. He later changed his stage name to 2Baba. Annie Macaulay, an actress and model from Akwa Ibom State, appeared in music videos and films. She became widely known through her relationship with 2Baba.

The couple registered their marriage at a Lagos registry in 2012. In March 2013, they held a traditional wedding in Annie’s hometown of Eket, in Akwa Ibom State.

Dubai, children and reality TV

Later in March 2013, they held a white wedding in Dubai, attended by celebrities and friends. It became one of the most talked-about Nigerian destination weddings, and 2Baba later dedicated his song “Rainbow” to Annie. The couple have two daughters together. 2Baba also has children from other relationships, a fact that attracted media attention throughout the marriage.

Their relationship was frequently discussed online, with fans and critics commenting on their ups and downs. Both sometimes addressed issues publicly. Annie later appeared in reality television shows, which kept her family life in the public eye.

The separation and co-parenting

On 26 January 2025, 2Baba posted on Instagram that he and Annie had been separated for some time and had filed for divorce. He briefly suggested his account had been hacked, then confirmed the post himself. In July 2025, he married the Edo lawmaker Natasha Osawaru in a traditional ceremony. Their story shows how difficult it can be to maintain privacy and stability in a celebrity marriage, especially in the age of social media.

Commentators have urged both to focus on their children as they move forward. The Dubai wedding photos still circulate whenever famous Nigerian weddings are discussed. The years that followed showed how much harder a marriage is to keep than a wedding is to plan.
