On a beach in Italy, Shane dropped to one knee. The proposal came after a walk along the sand at a beach club, a moment Shauna recalls without hesitation. "We went for a walk on the beach and Shane popped down on one knee," she said. The couple, who first met on a night out in Karma in Athlone, had been together long enough to know the setting mattered. Italy was the backdrop. The question was the point.
They got engaged during that trip and spent the next two years planning a summer wedding. On 30 May 2026, Shauna and Shane married at St. Patrick's Church in Moate before celebrating at Tullamore Court Hotel. The date itself was a choice. So was the color. The couple went with fuchsia, a shade Shauna said fit the season. "It was a summer wedding and we thought this fitted in perfectly," she said. The Irish weather cooperated for the most part. A few showers passed through, but nothing that slowed the day.
Shauna found her dress at Ivy Grace. It was an A-line silhouette with floral detailing on the bodice and off-the-shoulder straps. She mentioned the practical detail before anything else. "And the most important part, it had pockets," she said. Shane wore a navy and blue suit with a white tie and navy shoes. His groomsmen matched in navy suits with light blue waistcoats. The bridesmaids carried the fuchsia theme in their dresses, paired with gold shoes and bags.
The ceremony at St. Patrick's Church in Moate was built around family. The couple picked songs with personal meaning and chose specific people for readings and prayers. "We carefully picked people close to us for readings and prayers, as we wanted these people to play a special part in our day," they said. After the service, the wedding party drove to Dún na Sí for portraits. The park gave them a relaxed setting between the formal parts of the day. Shauna said the photos there were fun, and the morning leading up to it felt magical. "Getting ready with my bridesmaids and family was so magical," she said. "We had such a good time."
Masters of Photography handled the day from start to finish. The couple said the team captured everything between the morning preparations and the evening. "From the minute they came to the minute the left they captured everything in between," they said. "We are so happy with all the photos we received. Would highly recommend them." They also brought in Captured by Chanel, a wedding content creator who delivered raw pictures and videos by 9:30am the next morning. "The attention to detail is amazing," the couple said.
The reception took place at Tullamore Court Hotel, a venue that won them over immediately. "From the moment we walked into the Tullamore court hotel, we fell in love with it," Shauna and Shane said. "It's a beautiful venue. Staff are lovely and very helpful. All decorations that we seen were just amazing too." The evening's music came from Chapter 3, a band made up of friends. "We love how they all play together and wanted them to be part of our day," they noted. The dance floor stayed full.
Even the favors had a personal story. Shane's uncle keeps bees, and the couple handed out small pots of honey from the hives, labeled Riverpark Honey. It was a detail guests could take home and actually use, a small piece of the family's own work.
The couple's advice for anyone still working through a wedding checklist is direct. "Just enjoy every minute! Do everything you want to do," they said. They met in Athlone, got engaged on an Italian beach, and married in Moate with fuchsia everywhere and honey on the tables. The showers came and went. The photos are already back.
